News from Autism Society New Brunswick
Autism Society New Brunswick is inviting all parents to attend a meeting on Saturday, March 24, 2012 in Fredericton at UNB McLaggan Hall, Room 53, from 12:00pm-4:00pm. Please plan to attend and invite other New Brunswickers with an interest in autism. Topics for discussion include 1.) Lack of progress on adult care issues, 2.)Early Intervention and School Services for children and students with autism were instituted because parents advocated for those services are now at risk in the current economical environment. . Autism Resources Miramichi Inc. is presenting a number of awards to individuals and an organization based exclusively on their commitment to the Autism Community in Northumberland County.
Our goal is to applaud persons who are/ have made a positive difference in the lives of persons or families living with Autism Spectrum Disorder within the last two years., and to inspire others how they can make a valuable contribution to the Autism Community.
The deadline for submitting application for the 2012 Autism Leadership/Spirit Award is February 6th, 2012. A panel of judges within the autism community will review all application on February 9th, 2012. Honorees will be announced at the Annual General Meeting Feb. 25, 2012.
Criteria for nomination consists of show casing individuals or community groups who have demonstrated leadership, outstanding initiative, and modeling inspiration to others.
Each nomination must include the following guideline materials.
1) Cover page with name of nominee, address, phone number and e-mail
2) A short descriptive essay of approximately 500 words or less why the nominee deserves the award
3) Nomination categories a) individuals b) professional, c) community organization
4) Please label the award category of the person or organization being nominated
Autism Professional of the Year Award. A professional who has made a significant contribution in the autism field. (educator, speech language pathologist, Occupational therapist or other)
Individual with Autism of the Year Award. An individual with autism that has excelled in one or more areas of life experiences or contributions. He or she demonstrates effort and achievement in one of the following: academics, athletics, community services or independent living skills.
Individual or Group Volunteer Service Award. Given to an individual or group that has made an enduring contribution to improving services.
Community Autism of the Year Award. Recognizes a community organization that has made a significant impact to improving the lives of persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder through social, recreational, inclusive or financial contributions.
Miramichi Police
The Miramichi Police will host an information session on “Keeping Your Children Safe When Using the Internet”
The session is open to parents and children, youth and adults living with ASD.

Autism Speaks Canada
We are absolutely delighted to be a recipient of Autism Speaks Canada, 2011 Family Services Community Grants.
ARM wishes to acknowledge Autism Speaks Canada and we are very grateful for Autism Speaks Canada’s generosity to fund Autism Resources Miramichi Employment Preparedness Program.
ARM will offer a 26 week training program for persons over the age of 16 living in Northumberland County with Autism Spectrum Disorder. The start date will be in mid August /2012. The program includes life, social and community skills training, transition planning, employment preparedness, job matching and much more. For more info, contact Lila Barry at 622-8137.
